The Modern Horse

The Modern Horse

Centered Riding and Classical Training.
A Powerful Combination.

Centered Riding® is an innovative way of expressing the classical principles of riding, using body awareness, centering and imagery.

Centered Riding® encompasses all seats and styles of riding. It teaches a language that allows clearer communication between horse, rider, and instructor.

Centered Riding® was developed by Sally Swift, author of the best-selling book and videotapes, and is now taught by Centered Riding® Instructors around the world.

Why try the Centered Riding® approach?

Centered Riding® is not a ‘style’ of riding such as Western, Dressage or Jumping. Rather, Centered Riding® is a way of re-educating the mind and body toward greater balance and integration, which in turn can open up whole new dimensions in the ability to ride effectively and harmoniously. It gives a new way of expressing the old classical principles in whatever style of riding the rider chooses. Centered Riding® shows the rider how to achieve an independent seat, a light contact, effective aids etc. etc.

French Classical Training

The French Classical School of Training a horse is all about excellent rider position, creating lightness and harmony between horse and rider.

It is the perfect method of training for those wishing to improve their horse without force or violence. Instead gymnastic training exercises and intelligent use of the rider’s body are used to teach the horse what is required.

The Modern Horse combines development of rider position with the French Classical techniques to achieve significant improvements in both rider and horse.

Who is the Modern Horse aimed at?

Everyone who wants a more harmonious and positive relationship with their horse.

Classical training is not just for the experienced rider, it is equally suitable for those who are less experienced and who have ‘ordinary’ horses and ponies.

Clients range from competitive riders to those who would just like to be able to canter out on a hack.
